Anahata Yoga Health and Education Trust Update

The Anahata Yoga Health and Education Trust (AYHET) is continuing to support local and national events, and is committed to sharing the principles and benefits of Satyananda Yoga in daily life with the wider community.

Community events and organizations that the Trust has recently supported within New Zealand include:

On-going donations to the Christchurch, Waikato and Hamilton prisons, of neti pots, books and tapes through the Yoga Education in Prisons Trust (YEPT: www.yogainprisonstrust.org), an organization founded and run by members of the New Zealand Satyananda Yoga community.

A donation of CDs, as well as half price CDs and books, were given to the recent Yogathon - Health for Humanity event held in August in New Zealand. The aim was to collectively do 100, 000 rounds of Surya Namaskara (Salute to the Sun) over a period of 15 days in order to raise awareness of yoga and its health benefits. For more info and results click here.

A donation was made to the Epilepsy Foundation of New Zealand.

Neti pots were donated at a recent Asthma and Diabetes workshop in Turangi in September, as part of Anahata's Health Series.

We are also currently involving ourselves in service roles in our wider community.  This includes:

A yoga class for teens which began at the Golden Bay Workcentre Trust in October.

Helping in the kitchen at Onetahua marae in Pohara at huis that the marae hosts.

Providing support to neighbours with their garden projects and property maintenance.

The Trust is grateful for generous donations towards the Sponsorship Program which is currently helping an Anahata resident undergo the Yoga Studies certificate at Mangrove Mountain Ashram in Sydney, as well as giving financial support to sincere applicants wishing to experience the ashram lifestyle at Anahata.

Special thanks to Rachel McInnes, Shantachittam, Jennie Carty, Jo Wallace, Leonie and Mick Durrant, and ‘Yoga for You’ for their generous donations.

Current AYHET Projects which need your support:

Continued support of the Sponsorship Program:

Donations go towards supporting Anahata residents in the 2 year yogic studies program (costs involve $7020 AUD ($9,600 NZD) plus travel costs), as well as providing financial support to enable more people to experience the benefit of a yogic lifestyle at Anahata.

Further $10,000 in funds is still required towards the new "people mover".

Our next big projects include getting a solar hot water system (estimated to cost around $10,000) so that our guests can enjoy naturely heated warm showers from the renewable resource of the sun.  Currently we largely rely on the back-up generator, which means that petrol is used for running showers in the main building.

Other Future Projects:

Building walking paths to foster public access to this unique native forest we are so fortunate to enjoy.

Creating new yoga products, such as yoga CDs, which support practice at home and personal development, particularly aimed at specific groups such as Yoga for High Blood Pressure, Yoga for Women’s Health, and more Yoga for Kidz products.

If you would like to support the ongoing work of the AYHET and to help us share the benefits of yoga, we have a payment option available on our website. Also visit our website for options on tax-deductible donations and making bequeathments to Anahata in your will.
