Anahata Yoga Health and Education Trust (AYHET) has started a series of "Yoga For Health" workshops in Golden Bay. Aimed at introducing yogic practices to improve health and well-being, they are led by Matrirupa, a qualified yoga teacher and registered nurse with many years experience. Topics covered so far include Yoga for Stress Management and Deep Relaxation, and Yoga for a Strong and Healthy Back. The next workshop on 7th June will be Yoga and the Breath of Life. Upcoming workshops will cover Yoga for Graceful Menopause, Yoga for Flowing and Flexible Joints, Yoga and the Benefits of Sound Vibration and Yoga for Healthy Digestion.

Fundraising for Phoenix
AYHET has been collecting donations for 19 year old Anahata resident Phoenix, so that he can enroll in the Yogic Studies courses at Mangrove Mountain, Australia and eventually become a qualified yoga teacher. A big thanks to everyone who has donated so far, enough has now been raised for part one of the course and Phoenix will be heading to Australia in June to start his training.
"Thank you so much to all of you for your generous donations in support of my yogic studies. Your assistance is helping me get closer to my goal of NZ$6500, which will cover all four yogic studies modules and four plane rides to Australia. I feel humbled to see how much you all care about me doing yogic studies and being able to learn and share yoga with others.
It is very meaningful to me to see your love of yoga and your interest in it being shared with others. I have sent away my course application for YS1 and the first set of flights to Australia have recently been booked - this has manifested through all of your generous gifts.
Thank you again for all your help and support.
Om and Best Wishes,
Phoenix Tainui Baynham
P.S. – I will give an update on how the studies are coming along after I return from YS1 on July 7th."

We would like to introduce two of our newest Trustees at Anahata Yoga Health and Education Trust, Atmabhava and Matrirupa.
Atmabhava came to yoga because of health reasons and the practical and scientific methods immediately made a strong impression. He is a living example of how health can be transformed through yoga and he willingly shares his personal experiences to inspire others on their path towards health. He is an experienced adventure guide with a background in ecology; he blends the techniques of yoga with the beauty of the outdoors to inspire a connection to our internal nature.
His passion is in sharing the simple and readily accessible practices that bring about transformation with specific interests in Yogic Lifestyle, Diet and Nutrition, Pranayama, Meditation and Mantra and Kirtan. He enjoys working one on one with people to help them find more balance in their lives. He is
currently contracted to teach stretch and relax sessions at Ratonga Rua O Porirua, the Regional Forensic Rehabilitation Centre. Staff at this unit have requested an evening class which has become very popular with Psychologists, Nurses, Occupational Therapists all attending. Also teaching general community classes and private sessions, as well as working with cancer patients going through chemo therapy who find it very supportive.
Matrirupa is a qualified yoga teacher and registered nurse. She has been a practicing nurse for over 20 years, and teaching yoga for the last 15 years. By combining knowledge and experience from both professions, Matrirupa offers a wonderful integration of both principles and philosophies. She continues to develop her skills and knowledge with further studies in Yoga Therapy with the Yoga Biomedical Trust and yoga qualifications through Satyananda Yoga Academy Australia.
Vodafone Cell Tower Proposal
As you may know, Anahata has been supporting GB Natural and Linked in fighting a proposal by Vodafone to build a ten-storey, 30 metre-high cell phone tower on the land in front of Anahata Yoga Retreat that overlooks Golden Bay.
We continue to raise funds to cover legal expenses in our bid to oppose the Vodafone plan. Vodafone has been using stalling techniques and seem to be trying to find legal ways to get around things, and we as a community need to continue to work together and stay prepared so we are ready for any outcome. If you are able to donate money, time or other resources please click the PayPal button or contact GB Natural and Linked.
We also particularly need help from anyone with expertise/knowledge/experience in the following fields:
- Technological alternatives to cell towers
- Electromagnetic Frequencies (EMFs)
- Whether there is a need for the cell tower
- Ecological risk (e.g. to plant life/bird species etc)
- Landscape specialist (Outstanding Natural Landscapes/RMA)
- Cultural risk (e.g. scarring the Golden Bay landscape & views – this does not align with the community ‘eco’ culture)
- Tourism (the need to maintain our environment for the NZ 100% Pure brand that tourists come here to experience)
- Land value
- Economic impact
- Visual impact
- Noise impact
- Health impact
- Impact on spirituality
- Impact on landscape that people use for healing
If you are able and willing to assist please contact GB Natural and Linked.
