Newsletter January 2015
Over the years our main building Surya has been used to house our kitchen, library, office, and shared accommodation facilities. It has now deteriorated to a point where urgent repairs are needed in order to keep our building safe and up to a standard for people who come and stay with us.
So far we have already replaced the roof as this was damaged during Cyclone Ita in April of this year, but other parts of the building are still in urgent need of repair and rebuilding.
As you are well aware, building costs can add up up very quickly, we are having to repair Surya in three stages; the first being the most urgent - to replace and re-clad the accommodation side of the building. AYHET has been collecting donations for 20 year old Anahata resident Phoenix, which has allowed him to begin his Yoga Studies journey, a process of personal transformation that will eventually lead him to becoming a qualified yoga teacher. A big thanks to everyone who has donated so far which allowed Phoenix to complete part 1 of his studies. Part 2 begins at the end of January and your generosity and support is still needed.
FLOWER OPENS AS THE SUN ROSE
Breath in ~ Breath out, By Phoenix Baynham
As a result of many generous hearts enough money was successfully raised to cover my travel costs to Mangrove Yoga Ashram in NSW, Australia & the course fees for Yogic Studies Module 1 of 4. I have recently completed module 1 via correspondence whilst living at Anahata Yoga Retreat and aim to begin module 2 on the 23rd of January 2015.
The most powerful transformations I have noticed within myself have been through experience. Yogic Studies encourages one important tool in particular – personal experience. Experimenting with the practices and observing the benefits. By regularly practising asana, pranayama and meditations given within the diploma I have begun to lay the ground work by establishing a stable base and foundation not only in yoga but in my Self. The spiritual growth and progress that is continuously taking place is inspiring. A natural purification on a physical, mental and energetic level has been a by-product of living a yogic lifestyle, allowing the rediscovery of purer aspects of my personality which lay covered prior to walking this path. For this I am very grateful.
By completing the Yoga Teachers Training, I will be able to share these techniques for the upliftment & wellbeing of others, so they too can re kindle that inner flame and have an experience of their own. The Experience of Life
Your love and support is greatly appreciated.

Golden Bay Natural and Linked (GBNL) is an Incorporated Society formed to preserve the rare natural landscape of Golden Bay for people to have a space to retreat away from visual and electro-magnetic pollution and we wish for future generations to enjoy nature's playground.
Vodafone has unethically gained a code of compliance on their application to install a 25m high cell phone tower very close to Anahata Retreat at Birds Clearing. This tower is visually impacting all the properties as well as posing a huge threat to people and nature, because of the health risks caused by EMF exposure (Electro Magnetic Frequencies).
At Anahata Retreat we strive to maintain the natural beauty of the landscape and provide a place where our guests can retreat from the stress and stimulation of work, modern technology and the impact of city life. We have intentionally chosen to be in a remote area, sustainable and off the grid. The proposed Vodafone tower will have a negative impact physically, mentally and visually on our guests, residents and wildlife.
Golden Bay Natural and Linked, Anahata Retreat and neighbours are up against the "BIG" guys...the multi-national companies and the government and we can only preserve this space with your help.
We need to raise $20,000 for court proceedings against Vodafone on abuse of process and the local council on inaccurate rule interpretation. This case is a precedent for both local and international regulation on cellphone towers and the liberal relations of governments and telco's.
We can only proceed with this campaign by raising funds to pay for our environmental attorney and legal expenses.
We will express our gratitude to the highest donator with a free week stay at the Anahata Yoga Retreat.
